When a map is old enough, literally everything on it becomes wrong. They're searching for something, but they don't have much to go on. I think in this case the struggle is good, but I do want to make it more rewarding, even if the objective is one that a single players has latched onto independent of anything else.

Searching for more information about the lay of the land around the bugbear crag, the party ends up ambushing a patrol, but when the ambush doesn't get surprise, the battle is far more even than intended.
